Severe Coverage Mode enabled! — May 16th

XWD has enabled Severe Coverage Mode due to a Day 1 HIGH risk of excessive rainfall issued by the Weather Prediction Center (WPC) and the potential for severe weather in the Southern US.

Widespread heavy rainfall is on the horizon for much of the Southern US, with a heightened focus on eastern Texas and western Louisiana. Projections indicate that precipitation levels meet thresholds for a HIGH risk of flash flooding and there is a growing certainty, supported by recent model data, that a significant flooding event will unfold today and /or tonight. Severe weather will also be a factor in this event as well with an Enhanced risk issued by the Storm Prediction Center (SPC), mainly in Texas and western Louisiana.
