Severe Coverage Mode enabled! — March 13th

XWD has enabled Severe Coverage Mode due to a potential wildfire and severe weather outbreak today and tomorrow in parts of the central and south-central US. You can view all outlooks on our NEW weather resources page here.

For the wildfire outbreak: Relative humidity has already dropped into the teens to low 20s across much of the southern High Plains with winds around 15 mph. Winds will increase rapidly over the next few hours as the boundary layer deepens with sustained winds of 25 to 30 mph by early afternoon.

For the severe weather outbreak: Hail will be the primary threat with a 30% hatched area mainly over parts of Kansas and Missouri today. A much more broader area of severe weather will also take place tomorrow mainly over parts of Arkansas and Oklahoma. Damaging winds and tornadoes will also be a threat.
