Renville County, MN
Severe Storms
Tadd Parris
Today looked
like it would be just a rainy day for most of Minnesota, tornadoes were very
unlikely it seemed. At 12:51pm I noticed the velocity image below and
found it very odd to see. Looking at the radar location and the couplet it
is clearly rotation 2 miles S of Watertown, MN. Had no idea that an hour
or so later a tornado would develop in Downtown Minneapolis. Today looks
to be an outbreak day with more then 12 tornadoes seeming likely for the
Midwest.

 |
| Velocity showing a couplet (little
notch) just south of Watertown, was likely rotation. (Time was 12:51pm) |
This is just an amazing look at the
rotation at the time the tornado touched down. |
 |
 |
| This was the cell that would go on to
produce the tornadoes in Brown County and I let it go south. |
To my NW I had this area of
rotation that I decided to chase instead. |
 |
 |
| Wall cloud to my NW of Olivia some
ways, honestly I got lost for a bit today. |
Another look as it get completely rain
wrapped |
 |
 |
| Weird inflow maybe lowering to my west
which was pretty cool. |
Every direction the skies just started
to open up with rain shafts. |
| Base of a storm with some strong
inflow. |
Was pretty interesting and likely a
lowering forming but the rain to my west was on the doorstep. |
 |
|
| Feature to the south of Olivia and the
rain to my west. Looks like either a shelf or updraft region of the
storm. Strange day that is all I know. |
